Quick Product Summary: 10m x 450mm grey self-adhesive flashing tape for the largest repair areas in this range. Best for broad abutments, large patch repairs, wide flashing laps, roof sheet overlaps, parapet areas and jobs where fewer joins are preferred. Porous brick, blockwork or concrete may need priming before application.
Sika Black Jack Self-Adhesive Flashing Tape 10m x 450mm is the widest roll in this flashing tape range, made for large roof repairs, broad flashing laps, wide roof sheet overlaps, parapet details, skylight edges, gutter areas and larger waterproofing jobs. It has a grey lead-look finish, an aluminium foil face and a bitumen rubber adhesive backing, helping form a waterproof seal when pressed firmly onto a clean, dry and suitable prepared surface.
The 450mm width gives maximum coverage in one strip. It is useful where a repair area is too wide for 300mm tape, where fewer joins are preferred, or where a broad patch repair needs to cover more of the surrounding surface. This makes it a practical choice for larger roof details, wide abutments, broad overlaps and planned maintenance work.
Where This 450mm Flashing Tape Fits
This 450mm roll is suited to large repair areas where maximum strip width, broad surface coverage and fewer joins are more important than tight detail placement.
- Sealing large roof seams, broad joints and wide flashing laps.
- Repairing larger roof areas where a wide waterproofing patch is needed.
- Covering broad roof sheet overlaps, sheet edges, fixings and larger roof details.
- Waterproofing wide gutter details, gutter edges and larger leak-prone areas.
- Flashing parapet walls, skylight edges, roof glazing areas and broad abutments.
- Sealing larger cracks or repair zones on suitable prepared concrete or building surfaces.
- Reducing the number of separate tape runs needed on wide repair areas.
- Creating a wide grey lead-look waterproofing strip on suitable prepared surfaces.
Why Choose The 450mm Width
Choose the 450mm roll when the job needs the widest available strip in the range. It is the best option for large patch repairs, broad roof details, wider abutments and areas where several narrower strips would otherwise be needed.
For narrow seams, capping bolts and small details, the 75mm or 100mm rolls will usually be easier to position. For medium-width repairs, the 150mm or 225mm sizes may be enough. For wide repairs where a broad strip is needed but maximum coverage is not required, the 300mm roll may be more manageable. For the largest repair areas and widest roof details, this 450mm roll gives the most coverage in one strip.
Key Performance Benefits
- Maximum Width In The Range: The 450mm roll gives the widest coverage for large roof repairs and broad waterproofing areas.
- Fewer Joins On Large Repairs: The wider format can reduce the need for multiple narrower strips on broad repair zones.
- Useful For Patch Repairs: The 450mm width helps cover larger damaged areas and surrounding surface in one measured strip.
- Self-Adhesive Backing: The bitumen rubber adhesive backing removes the need for a separate adhesive on suitable prepared surfaces.
- Grey Lead-Look Finish: The aluminium foil face gives a lead-look appearance for roof and flashing repair work.
- 10m Roll Length: The roll provides material for wide repair runs, large details or repeated maintenance tasks.
- Cut-To-Shape Use: The tape can be measured and cut to suit larger repair shapes before the backing is removed.
Applying The 450mm Tape On Large Repair Areas
The 450mm roll covers the largest area in one pass, so planning and handling matter. A strip this wide can be harder to reposition once the adhesive starts to grip, so measure carefully, cut before bonding and keep the tape supported while the backing is removed.
- Step 1: Clean the whole repair zone, including the outer edges of where the 450mm strip will sit.
- Step 2: Make sure the surface is dry, sound and stable before fitting the tape.
- Step 3: Prime porous surfaces such as brick, blockwork or concrete where required, then allow the primer to dry.
- Step 4: Measure the repair area and cut the tape to length, or cut it to shape, while the release backing is still in place.
- Step 5: Offer the cut section into position first, especially on broad abutments, large roof patches, parapet details, skylight runs and roof sheet overlaps.
- Step 6: Expose a short starter section of adhesive, fix one edge in position, then remove the backing gradually while pressing the tape down.
- Step 7: Work from the centre out towards all edges, then roll the full width so the edges, corners and overlap points are sealed properly.
When 450mm Flashing Tape Is Not The Best Fit
This 450mm flashing tape is the widest roll in the range and is designed for large external sealing and patch repair work. It is not always the easiest or neatest option where the repair is small, narrow or awkward to access.
- Do not apply to: Damp, wet, dirty, oily, greasy, loose, crumbling or unstable surfaces.
- Use a narrower roll for controlled repairs: For capping bolts, small seams, gutter details, roof sheet fixings or short repair points, 75mm, 100mm, 150mm, 225mm or 300mm tape may be easier to position.
- Check handling before use: The 450mm width covers a large area in one strip, so cut sections should be supported carefully while the backing is removed to reduce creasing, folding or trapped air.
- Prime first where needed: Porous brick, blockwork, concrete and similar absorbent surfaces may need Sika Black Jack Bitumen and Flashing Primer before application.
Technical Application Notes For 450mm Tape
Sika Black Jack 450mm flashing tape should be applied only to clean, dry, sound and suitable prepared surfaces. Because this is the widest roll in the range, the main application challenge is controlling a large adhesive sheet so it does not crease, trap air, fold back onto itself or leave loose edges.
- Use within the manufacturer-stated application temperature range of 5°C to 40°C.
- Do not apply over damp, wet, dirty, loose or unstable material.
- Clean well beyond the visible repair so the full 450mm strip lands on a properly prepared surface.
- Remove dust, loose particles, oil, grease and surface contamination before positioning the tape.
- Prime porous brick, blockwork, concrete or similar absorbent surfaces where required, then allow the primer to dry before applying the tape.
- Measure the repair area first and cut the tape to length, or cut it to the required shape, before removing the release backing.
- Set the full section into position before bonding, especially on large roof patches, parapet runs, skylight edges, broad abutments and roof sheet overlaps.
- Use at least 25mm overlaps where separate sections of tape meet.
- Remove the backing gradually so the wide sheet stays controlled and does not fold onto itself.
- Keep the loose section fully supported while applying it, especially on longer or wider cut pieces.
- Press from the centre out towards the edges to push trapped air away from the middle of the repair.
- Roll across the full 450mm width, including the outer edges, corners and overlap points.
- Check upstands, gutter edges, roof sheet profiles, corners and changes in surface level carefully, as a wide sheet needs firm contact across the whole area.
- In cold weather or after cold storage, adhesion may be reduced. Allow the tape to warm up or gently warm the bitumen adhesive layer with a hot air blower if needed.
- Always check the current manufacturer technical data sheet before use.
Safety: Wear protective gloves, eye protection and suitable work clothing when cutting and applying this flashing tape. Work from a safe position and avoid unsupported roof access. Because the 450mm strip is the widest size in the range, take extra care when handling large cut sections, removing the backing and pressing the adhesive face into place. Keep waste, backing film and residue away from drains and watercourses.
Products To Help With Preparation And Clean-Up
For porous brick, blockwork or concrete areas, prepare the surface with Sika Black Jack 902 Bitumen and Flashing Primer 1L before applying the tape.
For cleaning hands, tools or nearby marks after cutting, handling and pressing the wide strip into place, use Heavy Duty Sika Everbuild Textured Wonder Wipes – 75 Wipe Tub.
