Quick Product Summary: Sika Evercryl One Coat Roof Coating in Clear 5kg is a larger translucent instant roof repair compound for less-visible waterproofing repairs to gutters, flashings, upstands, vents, leadwork and broader local roof maintenance areas.
Sika Evercryl Clear 5kg is a ready-to-use resin-based roof repair compound for larger less-visible waterproofing repairs. It is designed to give instant water protection when applied and can be used in wet or dry conditions where the roof surface is suitable.
The Clear 5kg version has a different purpose from Black, Grey and White. It is the appearance-led option for translucent repairs where a strong visible colour patch is not wanted. It should not be described as fibre reinforced, because Sika states that fibre reinforcement applies except translucent.
Best For Larger Less-Visible Waterproofing Repairs
Choose Clear 5kg where a translucent finish is preferred across a larger local repair area. It is useful for roof details, gutters, flashings, upstands and general waterproofing work where Black, Grey or White would make the repair too visible.
- Larger translucent waterproofing repairs.
- Less-visible repair work on suitable prepared surfaces.
- Gutters, downpipes, gullies and roofline details.
- Flashings, upstands, vents and leadwork.
- Several repair points where a coloured patch is not preferred.
- Wet weather repair work where immediate waterproofing is needed.
Why Choose The 5kg Clear Version
The 5kg Clear version is useful when the repair area is too large for a small tin and a coloured finish is not wanted. It provides a translucent waterproofing option for broader local work, while Black, Grey and White are better where fibre-reinforced coloured repairs are required.
Choose Clear where the finish needs to stay less visible. Choose Grey, Black or White where fibre reinforcement and a visible repair colour are more important.
Key Benefits
- Clear Translucent Finish: Better for less-visible repairs where a coloured patch is not preferred.
- Instant Waterproofing: Designed to provide immediate water protection after application.
- Wet Or Dry Use: Can be applied in damp, wet and suitable frosty conditions.
- 5kg Larger Tin: Better for broader translucent repair areas and multiple roof details.
- Brush Applied: Designed for straightforward application after preparation.
- Flexible Membrane: Dries to a seamless flexible waterproof coating.
- UV Resistant: Formulated with lightfast acrylic polymers for outdoor exposure.
- Use On Suitable Surfaces: Suitable for many common prepared roofing and building materials.
Where It Can Be Used
Sika Evercryl Clear can be used for general sealing, repair, maintenance and waterproofing of many common roof surfaces in wet or dry conditions. It is suitable for local repairs on concrete, fibre cement, roofing felt, mastic asphalt, existing bituminous roof coatings, rigid uPVC, corrugated iron, metals, slates, brickwork, tiles, lead, copper and zinc.
- Larger less-visible waterproofing repairs.
- Small-to-medium roof leaks and waterproofing defects.
- Guttering, downpipes and gully repairs.
- Flashings, upstands, vents and leadwork.
- Metal, slate, tile, concrete and prepared roof details.
- Broader local repairs where 1kg or 2.5kg may be too small.
How To Apply
Always read the current Sika product data sheet and safety data sheet before use. The roof should be checked first, because no coating product should be relied on to repair a roof that is not structurally sound or stable.
- Inspect the roof: Replace or refix broken, slipped, cracked or missing tiles, slates, sheets or roof coverings before applying the compound.
- Prepare the surface: Remove loose debris, dirt, dust, grease, algae, fungal growth and unstable material from the repair area.
- Prime where needed: Sound non-porous surfaces may not need primer, but porous, friable or difficult surfaces should be primed with a compatible bitumen and flashing primer.
- Stir before use: Stir the product well before applying.
- Apply by brush: Apply the clear Evercryl with a brush, working it over the repair area and surrounding detail.
- Use one coat where suitable: Evercryl is designed as a one-coat repair compound, but extreme cases may need a second coat after the first coat has dried sufficiently.
- Allow to cure: The coating is instantly waterproof when applied, but full drying depends on temperature, coating thickness and site conditions.
Choosing Clear 5kg
Clear 5kg is best for larger waterproofing repairs where a translucent finish is more important than fibre reinforcement. It is not the same as the Black, Grey or White versions, which are the better choices for reinforced crack-bridging repairs.
- Choose Clear 5kg: For larger translucent repairs and less-visible waterproofing work.
- Choose Clear 1kg: For one small translucent repair.
- Choose Black, Grey or White: Where fibre-reinforced coloured repair work is required.
- Do not use on roof lights, windows, glass or translucent sheets: Sika warns that coating these areas can create a hidden hazard.
Technical Notes
- Clear / translucent instant roof repair compound for less-visible waterproofing repairs.
- 5kg tin suited to broader translucent repairs, repeated detail work and larger local maintenance areas.
- Brush-applied resin-based coating for prepared roof surfaces.
- Suitable for wet or dry application where the surface is sound and properly prepared.
- Can be applied in suitable frosty conditions down to -5°C.
- Approximate coverage: 950g to 1.9kg per m², depending on surface condition, texture and application thickness.
- Typical drying time is around 6 to 7 days, depending on temperature, coating depth and site conditions.
- Service temperature range: -25°C to +100°C.
- Important: Sika states fibre reinforcement applies except translucent, so choose Black, Grey or White where fibre-reinforced crack bridging is required.
- Do not coat roof lights, windows, glass or translucent sheets.
Important: Tins can become dented in transit. Dented tins are not a reason for return if the product remains usable. Please do not purchase tinned products if cosmetic dents to the tin would be an issue for you.
Safety: Always read the current Sika safety data sheet before use. This product contains flammable solvent, so keep it away from heat, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. Use only with suitable ventilation, avoid breathing vapour, and avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear suitable gloves and work clothing. Keep out of reach of children and prevent release into drains, watercourses or the environment.
Preparation, Filling And Clean-Up Products
Clear roof repair work still needs a sound, clean base even when the finish is intended to be less visible. If the surface is porous, dusty, weathered or friable, Sika Black Jack 902 Bitumen and Flashing Primer 1L can help prepare suitable areas before the translucent repair compound is applied.
Where the roof has deeper holes, sharper gaps or more defined splits, Sika Black Jack 903 Bitumen Trowel Mastic 1L may be useful first. It is better suited to filling deeper repair points before the clear coating is brushed over the wider area.
For handling and clean-up after preparation or application, heavy duty textured cleaning wipes can help clean general grime, residue and handling marks from hands, tools and suitable surfaces.
