Quick Product Summary: Sika Evercryl Black 5kg is a larger fibre-reinforced instant roof repair compound for black felt roofs, bitumen-coated areas, gutters, flashings, upstands and broader local waterproofing maintenance where a black finish is preferred.

Sika Evercryl Black 5kg is a ready-to-use resin-based roof repair compound for larger dark roof repairs where a black waterproof finish is preferred. It suits planned patching on black felt, mastic asphalt, bitumen-coated roof areas, gutters, flashings and roof details where grey or white repair coatings would stand out too much.

The black 5kg version is the darkest finish in the range and is best for repairs that need to blend into bitumen-style roof surfaces. It gives more working material than the smaller tins, making it useful for longer detail runs, repeated dark patch repairs and several leak-prone areas on the same roof.

Best For Larger Black Felt And Bitumen Roof Repairs

Choose Black 5kg when the repair is on a dark roof surface and there is more than one area to treat. It is a good fit for black felt laps, bitumen-coated roof sections, gutters, roof edges, flashing lines and multiple leak-prone details.

  • Larger black felt roof repairs.
  • Dark bitumen-coated roof areas.
  • Gutters, downpipes, gullies and roofline details.
  • Flashings, upstands, vents and leadwork.
  • Several repair points across the same roof.
  • Wet weather repair work where immediate waterproofing is needed.

Why Choose The 5kg Black Version

The 5kg tin is the better choice when a small repair tin may not provide enough material. It gives more working coverage for planned repair jobs, several leak points, longer details and broader patching where the repair finish needs to stay dark.

Choose Black where the roof is dark, felt-based or already coated with bitumen. Choose Grey where a visible grey repair is preferred, White where a light finish is required, or Clear where the repair needs a more translucent finish and fibre reinforcement is not required.

Key Benefits

  • Black Fibre-Reinforced Repair: Helps bridge small cracks and strengthen local roof repair areas.
  • Instant Waterproofing: Designed to provide immediate water protection after application.
  • Wet Or Dry Use: Can be applied in damp, wet and suitable frosty conditions.
  • 5kg Larger Tin: Better for several repair points and broader local roof maintenance.
  • Good For Dark Roofs: Black finish suits felt, bitumen and darker roof areas.
  • Brush Applied: Designed for straightforward application after preparation.
  • Flexible Membrane: Dries to a seamless flexible waterproof coating.
  • Multi-Surface Use: Suitable for many common prepared roof and building materials.

Where It Can Be Used

Sika Evercryl Black can be used for general sealing, repair, maintenance and waterproofing of many common roof surfaces in wet or dry conditions. It is suitable for local repairs on concrete, fibre cement, roofing felt, mastic asphalt, existing bituminous roof coatings, rigid uPVC, corrugated iron, metals, slates, brickwork, tiles, lead, copper and zinc.

  • Black felt roofs and dark bitumen roof sections.
  • Multiple small roof leaks and waterproofing defects.
  • Guttering, downpipes and gully repairs.
  • Flashings, upstands, vents and leadwork.
  • Metal, slate, tile, concrete and bitumen roof details.
  • Larger local repairs where 1kg or 2.5kg may be too small.

How To Apply

Always read the current Sika product data sheet and safety data sheet before use. The roof should be checked first, because no coating product should be relied on to repair a roof that is not structurally sound or stable.

  • Inspect the roof: Replace or refix broken, slipped, cracked or missing tiles, slates, sheets or roof coverings before applying the compound.
  • Prepare the surface: Remove loose debris, dirt, dust, grease, algae, fungal growth and unstable material from the repair area.
  • Prime where needed: Sound non-porous surfaces may not need primer, but porous, friable or difficult surfaces should be primed with a compatible bitumen and flashing primer.
  • Stir before use: Stir the product well before applying.
  • Apply by brush: Apply the black Evercryl with a brush, working it into cracks, gaps and surrounding repair areas.
  • Use one coat where suitable: Evercryl is designed as a one-coat repair compound, but extreme cases may need a second coat after the first coat has dried sufficiently.
  • Allow to cure: The coating is instantly waterproof when applied, but full drying depends on temperature, coating thickness and site conditions.

Choosing Black 5kg

Black 5kg is best for larger dark roof repair work where a black waterproof finish is needed. It is the strongest visual match for black felt, mastic asphalt and existing bituminous roof coatings, especially where grey or white repairs would look too obvious.

  • Choose Black 5kg: For larger dark felt, bitumen-coated roofs, black roof details and repeated dark patch repairs.
  • Choose Grey 5kg: For neutral visible patching on mixed roof areas, leadwork and concrete details.
  • Choose White 5kg: For lighter or white visible repair areas.
  • Choose Clear 5kg: For translucent repairs where fibre reinforcement is not required.

Technical Notes

  • Black fibre-reinforced roof repair compound for dark visible patch repairs.
  • 5kg tin suited to broader black felt, bitumen and dark roof maintenance work.
  • Brush-applied resin-based coating for prepared roof surfaces.
  • Suitable for wet or dry application where the surface is sound and properly prepared.
  • Can be applied in suitable frosty conditions down to -5°C.
  • Approximate coverage: 950g to 1.9kg per m², depending on surface condition, texture and application thickness.
  • Typical drying time is around 6 to 7 days, depending on temperature, coating depth and site conditions.
  • Service temperature range: -25°C to +100°C.
  • Do not coat roof lights, windows, glass or translucent sheets.

Important: Metal tins may arrive with minor dents after courier handling. Cosmetic dents do not affect use and are not treated as a return reason if the product remains sealed and usable. Please only order tinned products if small transit dents would be acceptable.

Safety: Always check the current Sika safety data sheet before use. This is a solvent-based product, so keep it away from flames, sparks, heat and ignition sources. Work with suitable ventilation, avoid breathing vapour, avoid contact with skin and eyes, and wear suitable gloves and work clothing. Keep away from children and do not allow product or residue to enter drains, watercourses or the wider environment.

Preparation, Filling And Clean-Up Products

Dark felt and bitumen-style repairs often need a clean, stable base before coating. If the roof surface is porous, dusty, weathered or friable, Sika Black Jack 902 Bitumen and Flashing Primer 1L can help prepare suitable areas before the black repair compound is applied.

Where the roof has sharper gaps, deeper holes or more defined splits, Sika Black Jack 903 Bitumen Trowel Mastic 1L may be useful first. It is better suited to filling and shaping deeper repair points before the wider black coating is brushed over the area.

After preparation or application, heavy duty textured cleaning wipes can help clean general grime, residue and handling marks from hands, tools and suitable surfaces.
