Sika Black Jack 904 Bitumen Roof Felt Adhesive 2.5L is a cold-applied, oxidised bitumen-based adhesive for roof felt bonding, lap sealing and mineral chipping work on prepared roof surfaces. It is used where a repair job involves several working points and needs a practical maintenance quantity.
The 2.5 litre tin is suited to multiple felt overlaps, local resurfacing details, small-to-medium patch areas and roof maintenance work carried out in more than one section. It is suitable for roofers, builders, maintenance teams and competent DIY users working on correctly prepared roofing felt, metal, concrete or wood.
Where This 2.5L Tin Fits
This mid-size roof felt adhesive is used when the job has several prepared areas to bond, seal or dress during the same repair session.
- Bonding roofing felt to prepared roofing felt, metal, concrete or wood.
- Sealing several felt laps, edge sections and roll-end overlaps.
- Sticking down loose felt across more than one suitable repair point.
- Bonding mineral chippings into the wet adhesive film on the final felt layer.
- Maintaining small-to-medium flat roof areas with a cold-applied adhesive.
- Cold gritting on suitable roof sections up to a 10 degree slope.
Key Performance Benefits
- Balanced Maintenance Tin: Useful for roof repair jobs with several working points.
- Multi-Section Use: Suits multiple laps, local felt details and small-to-medium repair sections.
- Cold-Applied Method: Allows roofing felt to be bonded without hot works when used as directed.
- Felt And Lap Function: Supports felt bonding and overlap sealing on compatible prepared surfaces.
- Cold Gritting Use: Can bond mineral chippings to the final felt layer on suitable roof areas.
- Tough Flexible Film: Forms a bitumen film that hardens and softens with changing temperatures.
Why Choose This Roof Felt Adhesive
Choose Sika Black Jack 904 2.5L when the roof repair involves repeated lap sealing, several small repair points or a moderate felt bonding section. It is a practical maintenance tin for jobs that need more than a single local repair but are still controlled in scale.
This size works well when the roof area needs several prepared sections treated in the same visit, without turning the description into a size comparison list.
How It Fits Into The Job
This adhesive is used after the roof has been inspected and each repair section has been prepared for bonding.
- Step 1: Prepare each repair section by removing dirt, dust, grease, rust, loose coatings and unstable material.
- Step 2: Brush or mop the adhesive over the required working area and allow tack to develop where needed.
- Step 3: Lay the felt or apply chippings while the adhesive film is ready to bond.
Quick Use Guide
Use only on compatible roof surfaces and follow the current manufacturer technical data sheet before application. When treating several repair points, prepare each section before opening the working area so the adhesive can be applied and covered in a controlled sequence.
- Stir the adhesive thoroughly before use and during application where needed.
- Check every working area is clean, stable and free from dust, grease, rust, loose paint and loose felt.
- Repair cracks, holes and loose felt before spreading adhesive over the section.
- Prime porous concrete, cement and lightweight concrete screeds where required, then allow the primer to dry before applying felt.
- Apply by brush or mop and leave open for 15 to 30 minutes, depending on conditions, so tack can develop.
- Place felt into the adhesive film carefully and press, rub or roll it down to improve contact and exclude trapped air.
- Maintain felt laps of at least 75 mm at edges and at least 150 mm at roll ends.
- On timber roof structures, nail down the first layer of felt before bonding later felt layers.
- For cold gritting, apply chippings immediately into the wet film and avoid leaving exposed black adhesive.
- Allow 24 hours drying time, depending on conditions, before checking adhesion.
- For cold gritting work, leave the completed surface dressing for at least 72 hours before lightly brushing away excess chippings.
- Clean tools immediately after use with Sika Wonder Wipes, white spirit or a suitable cleaner.
Safety: Wear protective gloves, eye protection and suitable work clothing when using this bitumen roof adhesive. Work with good ventilation, avoid breathing vapour or spray, keep the container away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources, and store securely in line with manufacturer guidance.
Please note: Tins can become dented during handling or delivery. Cosmetic denting does not normally affect the product inside and is not treated as a product fault if the tin is sealed and usable.
