Sika Black Jack 904 Bitumen Roof Felt Adhesive 1L is a cold-applied, oxidised bitumen-based adhesive for small roofing felt repairs, loose edge bonding and minor lap sealing. It is used on prepared roofing felt, metal, concrete and wood where a compact amount of adhesive is needed for a local roof repair.
The 1 litre tin is suited to short overlaps, isolated patch areas, loose felt edges and occasional maintenance jobs. It is suitable for roofers, builders, maintenance users and competent DIY users who need controlled application on a clean, stable and prepared roof surface.
What This 1L Tin Is Used For
This small roof felt adhesive is used for defined repair points where a limited amount of bitumen adhesive is enough for the task.
- Bonding small areas of roofing felt to prepared metal, concrete, wood or existing roofing felt.
- Securing loose felt edges before the damaged section lifts further.
- Sealing short felt laps, minor roll ends and small overlap details.
- Embedding mineral chippings into a small wet adhesive area on the final felt layer.
- Completing occasional flat roof maintenance without using a larger container.
- Cold gritting on suitable small roof areas up to a 10 degree slope.
Key Performance Benefits
- Compact Repair Tin: Practical for single repair points, small felt edges and short lap sections.
- Controlled Use: Helps apply only the amount needed for a local roof maintenance task.
- Cold-Applied Bond: Allows roofing felt to be bonded without hot works when used in line with manufacturer guidance.
- Small Lap Sealing: Useful for short overlaps, loose edge sections and minor roll-end repairs.
- Roof Substrate Compatibility: Suitable for prepared roofing felt, metal, concrete and wood.
- Local Chipping Work: Can bond mineral chippings into the final felt layer on suitable small repair areas.
Why Choose This Roof Felt Adhesive
Choose Sika Black Jack 904 1L when the repair is small, defined and needs controlled application rather than a large working quantity. It is suited to one-off roof details, small felt repairs, compact chipping areas and short lap-sealing work.
This size is useful when the priority is neat local repair work, simple handling and avoiding more open adhesive than the job requires.
How It Fits Into The Job
This adhesive is used once the local repair point has been checked, cleaned and made ready for bonding.
- Step 1: Check the repair point and remove dirt, grease, rust, loose coatings and unstable material.
- Step 2: Apply the adhesive by brush or mop to the prepared area and allow tack to develop where required.
- Step 3: Press the felt into place or bed chippings into the wet adhesive film.
Quick Use Guide
Use only on compatible roof surfaces and follow the current manufacturer technical data sheet before application. Small repair areas still need proper preparation because poor surface condition can reduce adhesion.
- Stir the adhesive thoroughly before use and during application.
- Check the local repair point is stable, clean and free from dust, grease, rust, loose paint and loose felt.
- Repair cracks or holes before bonding felt over the affected area.
- Prime porous concrete, cement and lightweight concrete screeds where required, then allow the primer to dry before applying felt.
- Apply by brush or mop and leave open for 15 to 30 minutes, depending on conditions, so tack can develop.
- Place the felt into the adhesive film carefully, then press, rub or roll it down to improve contact and remove trapped air.
- Use felt laps of at least 75 mm at edges and at least 150 mm at roll ends.
- On timber roof structures, nail down the first layer of felt before bonding later felt layers.
- For cold gritting, apply chippings immediately into the wet film and avoid leaving exposed black adhesive.
- Allow 24 hours drying time, depending on conditions, before checking adhesion.
- For cold gritting work, leave the completed surface dressing for at least 72 hours before lightly brushing away excess chippings.
- Clean tools immediately after use with Sika Wonder Wipes, white spirit or a suitable cleaner.
Safety: Wear protective gloves, eye protection and suitable work clothing when handling this bitumen roof adhesive. Use in well-ventilated conditions, avoid breathing vapour or spray, keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources, and store securely in line with manufacturer guidance.
Please note: This product is supplied in a tin, and minor dents may occur during transit. Dented tins are not accepted as a reason for return where the tin remains sealed, has not leaked and the contents are usable.
