How to Inject a Damp Proof Course (DPC) Against Rising Damp
This video demonstrates the complete process for installing a remedial damp-proof course (DPC) in existing masonry walls. The footage illustrates how to treat rising damp caused by capillary action in brickwork.
The first step involves removing salt-contaminated plaster to expose the underlying brick and mortar joints. The video shows the correct positioning for drilling injection holes. You must drill 12mm diameter holes horizontally into the mortar bed, approximately 150mm above external ground level. Space these holes 100mm to 120mm apart along the wall. Cleaning the drilled holes is vital. The demonstration uses a compressed air pump to remove brick dust and debris. This helps the injection material bond effectively with the mortar.
The video shows the injection process next, using a hand-operated gun. Insert the nozzle fully into the back of the hole. Fill the cavity slowly while withdrawing the nozzle to prevent trapped air pockets. The material shown, SikaMur InjectoCream 100, diffuses within the damp mortar to form a water-repellent barrier. The final stages cover wall restoration. The step-by-step video guide displays the application of a specialised replastering mortar to the treated area. This breathable layer allows residual moisture to evaporate. A final skim coat produces a smooth surface ready for decoration.
Following this method delivers a targeted solution for stopping moisture migration in building foundations.
