The Bond It SBR Admixture is a bonding agent that improves flexibility, adhesion, and performance in cement-based mixes.

Who This Product Is For

This product is for tradespeople working with cement-based materials, including builders, tilers, and plasterers, as well as serious DIY users undertaking substantial repair or construction work.

It suits projects involving concrete repairs, rendering, screeding, tiling preparation, and waterproofing applications where improved bond strength and moisture resistance are required.

Key Features

  • High Adhesion Properties: Bonds to various surfaces including dense concrete, steel, and tiles, creating a strong base.
  • Improved Flexibility: Enhances elasticity of cementitious materials to reduce cracking and shrinkage during curing.
  • Waterproofing Capabilities: Provides resistance to water ingress, suitable for areas exposed to moisture.
  • Chemical Resistance: Protects against effects of intermittent or continuous chemical exposure.
  • Ease of Application: Mixes easily with cement, allowing thin and uniform layers to be applied.

Practical Applications

  • Strengthening screeds and renders for improved longevity in high-stress settings.
  • Acting as a primer and sealer for tiling projects to provide a smooth, secure foundation.
  • Repairing concrete patches by improving adhesion and preventing feathering at the edges.
  • Preparing key coats for low-porosity substrates, promoting better bonding.
  • Waterproofing areas subject to frequent dampness, such as basements or exterior surfaces.

How This Fits Into a Typical Job

This admixture is used during the preparation and application stages of cement-based work. After surface cleaning, it is mixed with cement to create a key coat that is brushed onto the substrate. While this coat is still wet, the main material (screed, render, or mortar) is applied directly over it.

For waterproofing applications, two coats of the key mixture are applied at right angles, with drying time between coats, before the final render is applied.

Specifications

  • Pack Size: 5 litre
  • Appearance: Milky white liquid
  • Mixing Ratio: 5-7.5 litres per 25kg of cement, with water reduced accordingly
  • Key Coat Mix: 1 part SBR to 2 parts cement by volume, adjusted with water to brushable consistency
  • Drying Time: 48 hours for full curing in damp-proofing applications
  • Suitable For: Internal and external applications

How to Use

  • Surface Preparation:
    • Remove dust, grease, oil, or any loose material. Make sure the surface is solid and clean.
  • Mixing Key Coat:
    • Combine one part Bond It SBR with two parts cement by volume, adjusting with water to achieve a brushable consistency. Mix the key coat in a suitable mixing bucket.
  • Application:
    • Brush the key coat thoroughly onto the prepared surface. While still wet, apply the screed, render, or mortar mix directly over it.
  • For Damp-Proofing:
    • Apply two coats of the key mixture at right angles to each other, allowing each to dry before the next. Finish with a final coat, applying render while it remains wet.
  • General Mixing Guidelines:
    • Add 5-7.5 litres of Bond It SBR per 25kg of cement, reducing the water accordingly. Use 5 litres for thinner floors; adjust to 2.5 litres for thicker floors and follow with water. For larger batches use an electric power mixer to achieve a uniform mix.
  • Drying Time:
    • Allow 48 hours for full curing in damp-proofing applications.

Storage and Maintenance

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, to maintain product integrity.
  • Stir thoroughly before each use to maintain consistent performance.
  • Clean application tools immediately after use to prevent hardening and residue build-up.
